Set your mind on things above

Everyone's on a diet

Everyone's on a diet, whether they realise it or not.

Everyone's got a budget, whether they realise it or not.

Everyone's self-hypnotising, whether they realise it or not.

In fact, it's those who don't realise it, who are often on the worst diets, budgets and hypnosis programmes.

Better to wake up and choose a conscious diet, budget and hypnosis programming, don't you think?

You can choose. It's hard work at first, but when your conscious choices become unconscious actions, you can live well effortlessly.

Who wouldn't want that? Lazy people - not you.

"When the student is ready, the mentor will appear."

Do you undergo things?

Do you undergo things?

Or do you overcome things?

Do you need hard times to make you turn to God?

Is it true that a comfortable life makes us forget about God?

Certainly, it's true that an easy life can make us complacent.

However, I consider all the goodness in my life as coming from God.

Therefore, the better my life gets, the more I think about God and give thanks.

So, bring it on, Spirit.

I thank thee.

"When the student is ready, the mentor will appear."

What do you think?

It "doesn't matter" what others think of you.

It "only matters" what you think of them.

Yet even more important is what you think of you.

"When the student is ready, the mentor will appear."

How do you water a horse?

You can bring the horse to water but you can't make it drink.

It will drink when it's thirsty.

So, make it thirsty.

Work it.

"When the student is ready, the mentor will appear."

Tuition versus tiushen

"Tuition" is the process of learning in a classroom, dialectic environment, usually associated with higher education.

"Tiu-shen" is the de rigueur after-school classes that Malaysian kids attend, starting from primary school age, to make up for the systemic deficiencies in the public schools.

"When the student is ready, the mentor will appear."

Wax on, wax off... Breathe in, breathe out... Right wing, left wing...

Here's a thought.

Liberalism and conservatism represent two natural movements of life: inhalation and exhalation, growth and decay, expansion and contraction.

If you don't regularly experience both in turn, you'll be quickly in the emergency room, the ICU, and then the morgue.

Both movements are essential to life. There is no inhalation without exhalation. There is no growth without decay. There is no expansion without contraction.

Without both, without the full movements of life, there is no life.

However, these movements are natural, instinctual, unconscious. You don't have to consciously inhale and exhale, except for short moments of breathing exercise. You don't have to construct your bodily growth. These paradoxical movements happen naturally, in balanced rhythm.

They're not good or bad, they just exist. Together, in balanced rhythmic motion, they're good.

Otherwise, either one of them are bad.

Autophagy, cell death, is necessary for the elimination of old and damaged cells. But what happens if one experiences unchecked cell death?

Continuous decline to complete death.

What if one experiences unchecked cell growth?

Endless tumours, stopped only when the host body has expired and can no longer supply the cancerous cells.

Both extremes end in death. Death by implosion or explosion.

Look at politics. Liberalism and conservatism both have their place.

The liberal urge gives rise to things like live theatre. The conservative urge brings about things like the public library.

Yet, look at the current political climate. Unchecked Rightism will lead to one path of destruction. Unchecked Leftism will lead to another.

But the destination for both paths is the same: destruction of the country and most who dwell within it.

Who benefits from this?

Not the people. Not you and me. Not even the state.

But someone benefits.

There are none as conspiratorial as those who deny conspiracies exist

In this video, my favourite Dick talks about the George Washington mural that California is about to paint over:

"Enjoy the show and don't let it bother you too much."

This is great advice.

Conspiracies are everywhere. That's why, those who ridicule "conspiracy theorists" are usually the biggest actors in conspiracy. The intelligence agencies, for example.

When there's a huge crime scene, what do the cops say? That's right:

"Move along, now. Nothing to see here."

Nothing? No, there's a lot to see. They just don't want you to see it.

Hit me up for Premium Copy

It's dawned on me that many of my friends and followers don't know exactly what I do.

What I do seems obvious to me, because I'm doing it every day (of course). But I realise that it might be completely opaque to someone who's only occasionally glimpsing me on social media.

Premium Written Content

Well, what I do on a daily basis, is produce premium written content. There are other things, but this is the main thing.

This means two- to three-page feature articles. 750-word editorial columns and opinion pieces. Human-interest lifestyle pieces. Ten-page technical articles.

I don't do keyword stuffing, because I write for human beings. Also, Google is always trying to improve its artificial intelligence to learn what humans like, which makes keyword stuffing and other attempts to game the search engines shortsighted efforts.

The long game is to write quality stuff for intelligent real people.

  • Short and light lifestyle articles for your newsletter
  • Expert editorials for your company website
  • In-depth professional articles for your industry magazine

I can do all these for you and more at an exorbitant price.*

*Exorbitant, compared to keyword-stuffed article-mill fluff that might get your search engine optimisation penalised at the next Google update. For excellent copy that real people really want to read, however, my fees pay for themselves in your improved readership.

The Top Five Regrets of the Dying

  1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
  2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard.
  3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.
  4. I wish I'd stayed in touch with my friends.
  5. I wish that I'd let myself be happier.

What is a man? A response to Gillette

Surprise, surprise, Gillette. You don't get support from a group by nagging and browbeating them. (Actually, who's surprised by the backlash to the Gillette ad, except echo-chamber-dwelling ideologues?)

I have a son. I don't instill good character in him by telling him he's intrinsically flawed. I instill good character in him by showing him the way in which he should go. (This also keeps me on my toes, doesn't it?)

If you haven't seen the Gillette ad that's got men and women turned off, you can google it. Or don't. It's just more ho-hum man-bashing.

A Prayer for the Hour of Rush

O God our Help in ages past,

Thou and thou alone seest into the heart of man.

Thou and thou alone knowest of our pride as we look down upon the multitude of cars in their unceasing gridlock, as we ourselves soar through the skies in our trains of mass transit, arriving at our destinations in mere moments; for what is a half hour as one considers the hours that befall those unfortunate enough to ride in road-bound vehicles at such times like these, times that try the sons of men with the hour of rush?

Thou and thou alone know the wickedness that abides in the hearts of men. Remove this haughtiness as far as the elevated electric rail is from the toll highway.

If people are fundamentally non-rational

If people are fundamentally non-rational, then it is fundamentally rational to relate with them in a fundamentally non-rational manner.

Will the real bitcoin please stand up?

In the past, Ethereum ETH rolled back its blockchain to erase an event where millions of dollars worth of ETH were stolen. This was done with the approval of Ethereum's founder and most of its community.

A minority, however, refused to roll back the blockchain on the principle that blockchains are supposed to be immutable. This group retained the original blockchain, which records the theft incident. This blockchain is now known as Ethereum Classic, ETC.

By forking off the original blockchain and rolling the record back to before the theft incident, the theives ended up with ETC instead of ETH. ETC is worth a fraction of ETH.

So, the thieves ended up with a new coin that's worth a fraction of the price at which they stole the old coin. But wait - is ETC the new coin? Or is ETH the new coin? Which came first?

  • ETH is a hard fork of the original Ethereum blockchain, with the support of a majority, including the founder.
  • ETC is the original Ethereum blockchain, with the support of a minority.

So, which is the "real Ethereum"?

One could argue, both are.

  • Present-day bitcoin BTC is a hard fork of the original bitcoin blockchain, with the support of the majority.
  • Bitcoin cash BCH is a hard fork of the original bitcoin blockchain, with the support of the minority. (Bitcoin cash recently further hard forked into bitcoin cash ABC and bitcoin cash SV. The dust hasn't settled yet.)

Which is the "real bitcoin"?

Likewise, both. (Or, all.)

If you have a saltwater crocodile and a freshwater crocodile, which one is the "real crocodile"?

They both are, of course. One is simply more prevalent.

Only a man in a crocodile suit is not a "real crocodile."

What I'm saying is, think objectively. Avoid false dichotomies. The human mind tends toward dualities of absolutes. One has to be evil and one has to be good.

This is not the case. Good and evil always exist in both camps, to varying degrees.

Back to our crocodiles: Which is evil and which is good? The freshwater or saltwater variety?

Neither are good or evil. They both simply exist.

But if one ate your poodle, it wouldn't matter if it were the saltwater or freshwater variety. It would be a bad croc.

Try not to think in terms of absolutes, but in terms of appropriateness to the need at hand.

So it is with crocodiles and poodles, so it is with bitcoin and altcoins.
